Birgitta Jónsdóttir’s Call for Civil Rights Online

On Thursday an American judge decided that Twitter must release the details of TRB-contributor Birgitta Jónsdóttir‘s account in a case against WikiLeaks. She had this to say to The Guardian:

“This is a huge blow for everybody that uses social media,” said Jonsdottir. “We have to have the same civil rights online as we have offline. Imagine if the US authorities wanted to do a house search at my home, go through my private papers. There would be a hell of a fight. It’s absolutely unacceptable.”

In solidarity with Birgitta, we’d like to take this moment to say a few words to anyone feeling lackadaisical about digital rights by quoting her amazing poem in the TRB’s first issue—Wake Up, Wake Up, NOW!
